HAMILTON JEWELERS OFFERS SPECIAL GIFTS FOR MOTHER’S DAY

Do you know why we celebrate Moms in May?

The history of Mother's Day is centuries old and the earliest Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. During the 1600's, the early Christians in England celebrated a day to honor Mary, the mother of Christ.  In the United States, the modern interpretation of Mother’s Day was most influenced by Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis, a young Appalachian homemaker who, starting in 1858, had attempted to improve sanitation through what she called "Mothers Friendship Day".

It was Jarvis' daughter, Anna Jarvis, who finally succeeded in introducing Mother's Day in the sense as we celebrate it today. She hoped Mother's Day would increase respect for parents and strengthen family bonds.
As a result of her efforts the first mother's day was observed on May 10, 1908, by a church service honoring the late Mrs. Reese Jarvis, in the Andrews Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia.

When you consider all Moms do for their children, it’s staggering.  From care and compassion to a swift discipline when we needed it…Mom is always there.  Moms love us no matter where we go and what we do.  Isn’t this the year to show Mom that you appreciate everything that she does?  We can’t think of much else that better says ‘thank you, you’re wonderful’ than DIAMONDS!  That’s right, bling for Mom.

The origin of the expression "Luck of the Irish"

Where did the expression "Luck of the Irish" come from?
This expression is generally associated with good fortune and linked to the Irish. However, you may be surprised to find out that this phrase was born in here in America. It has been determined by a number of historians that throughout the gold and silver rush (sometime into the 19th century), many miners were of Irish American decent. Their positive mining experiences and undeniable fortunes were immediately associated with "luck". Over the course of time, the expression "luck of the Irish" (miners) became a common expression used in everyday diction.

Trending in Fashion: Color Blocking, Here is the 411

Color blocking has been a fashion favorite for some time now and it doesn’t seem to be going away. With summer coming to an end shortly, we thought we’d share with you four ways to incorporate color blocking into your wardrobe before drab winter hits. First, what is color blocking? Color blocking is defined as the method of wearing multiple solid colors in an outfit, usually bold and bright colors. You may be thinking you can’t pull this style off, but you’d be wrong! It’s a lot easier than you think.

-          Head to Toe color blocking: This is the most well known and most worn type of color blocking, embodying the true definition of color blocking. Simply start with a color and pair with different hues. To pull off this dramatic look, start with a bright hue like fuchsia and don’t hold back! To carry this look into fall, try color blocking with one of Pantone’s fall 2014 colors, like Misted Yellow or Bright Cobalt. Complete the look with chunky gold jewelry. Go big or go home, right!

-          Weekend color blocking:  Our favorite type of color blocking, not to bold yet still a stand out! The trick to the weekend color block is pairing your brightly hued pants with denim or chambray. Try a vibrant red pants for summer and Radiant Orchid for fall! The important part is keeping the focus on the pants, so stick with neutral flats or pumps. Jazz up the look with a studded collar.

-          Work appropriate color blocking: This look is very similar to the weekend color blocking look, but paired with black, tailored separates. It can be difficult to wear color in the work place but teaming a vibrant hue with black will leave you feeling fashionable and work-appropriate!

-          Pastel color blocking: This type of color blocking is perfect for the end of summer. Pair light pastel hues like blush and lavender with dark, wintery colors like olive and navy.

There you have it, color blocking 101. Now that we’ve given you some ideas on how to pull this trend off, will you be sporting any of these looks?  We also want to hear from you, send us your color blocking looks or tell us which type of color blocking is your favorite on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram!

BREAKING NEWS: This week ROLEX Announced their NEW WATCH (Commemorating James Cameron's New Film)

While holding an event at the American Museum of Natural History on August 4th, Rolex made a very special announcement, an announcement that took a lot of people by surprise. Normally, Rolex unveils their newest watches at Baselworld, which takes place every March, but on a beautiful New York City night, Rolex broke from the norm and announced the DeepseaSea-Dweller with D-Blue Dial. The news came at an early screening of James Cameron’s new documentary, Deepsea Challenge 3D, where Cameron was also presented with the first Rolex Deepsea with D-Blue Dial.

This pairing came about in 2012, when Cameron worked with other companies and Rolex to design a new submersible vessel to explore the depths of the ocean. Rolex contributed by supplying Cameron with an over-sized version of the normal Deepsea watch, but one that could withstand the forceful amount of pressure at 12,000 meters under water, known as the Deepsea Challenge. With a Deepsea watch on his wrist and the 51mm Deepsea Challenge strapped to the outside of the vessel, Cameron was ready to make his journey to the Mariana Trench, the deepest point of the earth’s ocean.

This special edition watch, which commemorates Cameron’s dive and new film, is based off of the Deepsea Sea-Dweller 1166600 model. And when we say based off, we mean it’s extremely similar with a few changes here and there. Both Deepsea watches have the same 44mm case, 5mm thick sapphire crystal, depth of 12,800 feet, and titanium case back. So what makes this watch so special, aside from Rolex announcing it “out of season” and the fact that it commemorates Cameron’s journey? The dial, yes, the dial. The unique gradient dial transforms from blue to black to represent the depths of the ocean.  Another interesting detail is the word “DEEPSEA” is featured in bright green, which happens to be the same color of Cameron’s submersible, and has been moved from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock.

This collaboration and unexpected announcement has watch enthusiasts excited for what’s to come from the Rolex brand.

Standing Out In The Crowd: Trending Watches/Timepieces

Unusual watches vary and put the design limits to the test. The vast majority of these eclectic pieces have a very unique look and feel about them. There is usually no ordinary theme to them and are for the crowd that wants to stand out from the rest. A watch can vary by material, color, style and shape. What makes a watch unique is the combination of these four factors.

The material of the watch is one of the most unique factors and one that can really make a watch stand out from the rest. Watches can be made out of anything you can form in a watch that is durable such as gold, stainless steel, titanium, platinum, tungsten carbide, ceramic, plastic, wood and more.

The color of a watch will also make the watch stand out especially if it’s a bright color. If a watch is made from plastic, then it can be any color one can imagine. You’ll see watches in funky colors and some in black or white. Watches made of gold are of course only going to be the color of gold but can be unique by having a different color wristband. The options can be anywhere from quirky and fun to elegant and sophisticated. (see image below of  ROLEX CELLINI CELLISSIMA)

Referring to the face of the watch, the shape can really define a watch. The most common watch shapes are square, rectangular and round. Unusual watches would include shapes such as hexagonal, oval, trapezoid and varieties of the most common. Finding a watch with an unusual shape will definitely be a way to wear something that everyone else is not.

A timepiece is truly a representation of fashion and style that links directly to you. Today, many unique watches are made compared to the past. The technology of watches has evolved and nowadays watches can be very complex. Watches no can have alarms, time zones, dates, thermometers, compasses, ocean wave charts and many other gadgets. Watches have either been digital or analog but recently watches have been made into a combination of both.

One of the most extreme unusual watches is manufactured by DEVON. The watch is called Tread which has a set of interwoven belts with numbers to display the time. The one belt displays the hour and the other displays the minute. The see-through top shows some inter working which is really cool to see the gears and mechanics of. The movement isn't mechanical or electric but a hybrid of the two. The unique design requires a lot of energy to operate so it has a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery which needs to be charged every few weeks.  The specifications of the Tread include a stainless steel case, 1mm sapphire crystal, water resistant, lithium polymer rechargeable battery, inductive wireless charging and nylon time belts.
