Conflict over Diamonds- Support Jewelers AGAINST Blood Diamonds

CONFLICT DIAMONDS:

Hamilton Jewelers supports the united nations' efforts to stop the sales of diamonds from any country where rebel forces use diamonds to finance acts of war and terror. While it is impossible to verify the country of origin of any polished diamond once it is separated from its source, we are working with all of our suppliers to ensure they do not knowingly sell us diamonds from any "conflict" areas. You should be aware that these diamonds now represent less than 1 percent of the world's diamond supply, and that the DTC has certified that the stones they mine are not from conflict areas. As Hamilton Jewelers deals directly with DTC sightholders for its diamonds, we can confidently assure you that the diamonds we sell are not from conflict regions.

It is not possible for any one entity to tackle the problem alone but thru our continuing partnership with the Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC), Jewelers of America (JA), American Gem Society (AGS), and agreement with the Diamond Trading Company (DTC) sightholders, we continue to work toward educating the industry on this important issue.

Hamilton Jewelers will continue to assist our industry in every way we can in dealing with this issue. We recognize the importance of stopping the flow of conflict diamonds and fully pledge our support to those working towards that end.

We strive to incorporate social responsibility in every aspect of our business conduct, including printing our catalog and other collateral on recycled paper, using energy efficient lighting in our stores, and much more.

We continue to be committed to this critical issue for the future.

The origin of the birthstone

Babies born in April are blessed with one of the most popular and valuable stones available: the Diamond. But this amazing gemstone has left many to question:

  • Why does April get the diamond?
  • Where and when did birthstones originate?

These precious gems date back to the breastplate of Aaron ( details and explanations are pictured below)

Holy scripture: Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord, upon his two shoulders, for a memorial.... And Aaron shall bear the names of the Children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the Holy Place.' -- EXODUS xxviii.12,29.
Twelve precious stones were placed upon a square to form a breastplate attachment. Each stone, varying in color, was set into a gold socket and a tribe name was etched on each gem. It is unclear as to why a particular tribe was assigned to a specific stone, there are theories but no proof

In the present day, some have adorned the breastplate of Aaron in a modern fashionable way (see bracelet below). These stones have been directly linked to the birthstone selection.

There are also many legends that link specific powers and therapeutic abilities to the stones. It has been said throughout time that wearing a gemstone during the month it was assigned stimulates healing powers from within.

What to get my wife for our anniversary?

The Love Knot

Showing your deep devotion to the one who is bonded to your soul.

There are distinct knots that have been named the lover’s knot, but some are not knots until they are forcibly pulled apart from one another. That is why the intertwining of two loops that form a seamless unity is easy to relate to relationships and love.

Despite pulling, twisting and attempted unraveling, these loops shall not part. For decades this united twist has represented two souls with a deep affection for one another.

Whether your relationship has endured pain, struggle or remains a burning flame...these artisan pieces are more than beautiful, they are meaningful. Standing the test of time, the two are connected- as the Love Knot.
