Breguet and Panerai Celebrate the Chinese New Year With ‘Year of the Dog’ Watches

Happy Chinese New Year! This Friday, February 16, marks the start of the Year of the Dog, the 11th sign in the Chinese Zodiac. To mark this momentous occasion, the master artisans at Breguet and Panerai have created limited-edition dog-themed watches.

The dog embodies certain important traits that include loyalty, bravery, honesty and devoted attention. The dog is smart and incredibly lively. These are the features that Breguet hoped to interpret in their new timepiece: the Breguet Classic 7145 Chow Chow watch. Powered by a mechanical movement that can be viewed through the sapphire caseback, the Classic 7145 watch features the dog in the center of the dial, happily stealing the show. The fully engraved white gold dog sits atop some coins and is set against a hand guilloché dial. The detailing of the dog on the dial requires hundreds of hours of engraving work, as well as dozens of hours creating the guilloché ivory background. Just eight pieces will be made.

Another brand we carry here, Panerai, has unveiled a Year of the Dog watch in the form of a fully engraved and pierced hinged-cover on the Panerai Luminor 1950 Sealand 3 Days Automatic Acciao watch. The cover opens to reveal the dial beneath, but it is on the cover where the gold-and-black engraved and lacquered dog sits in majesty against a plum-flower background. Panerai will produce 88 pieces of this watch.

3 Tips for Finding the Right Watch for Her on Valentine’s Day

OK, men, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you want to be on top of your game for that special woman in your life, be it a wife, a girlfriend or mom. While flowers are beautiful, they are so cliché — besides they die in a few days. Chocolates are sweet, too, but who isn’t trying to watch their weight these days? Dinner — yes, romantic for a night. However, we suggest you look to give her something much more meaningful and long lasting: give the gift of time.

A watch makes a perfect gift. It says you care and that you took time to find the right timepiece for her. What’s’ more, it will last so much longer than all those other things — and as long as your love (Well, some watches might need a new battery if they are quartz, but you can stay on top of that five years down the road). Additionally, there is a watch for any budget. Here we bring you three tips for buying the right gift this year:

Think about the colors she loves. Watches come with all sorts of stunning straps, with vibrant hues, pastels and neutrals. Unsure of her favorite color? You can’t go wrong with red or pink on Valentine’s Day.

Think about those flowers you were considering. Certain watches have stunning floral motifs on their dial that let you give both concepts at once. Others also have heart motifs. You may want to look at those, or even better, just a beautiful swirl or hand-guilloché pattern on the dial that adds depth and dimension (much like that woman in your life has).

Think about her hobbies. Is she active and sports involved? A chronograph might be the right watch. Is she a business woman, busy traveling the world? Perhaps a dual timer or world timer watch would be a good pick. Does she like things simple and uncomplicated? Maybe a three-hands watch with date? Is she a hopeless romantic? Then you have to go with a moon phase watch.

Still not sure? Stop into our store any time in the coming week and we would be happy to help you find the watch that suits your message, your budget and your loved one. We can even send you on your way with a gift-wrapped box.

Palm Beach Named One of Forbes Top 18 Destinations to Visit in 2018

HJ Worth Ave at Night Palm Beach Lately Feature We love being in Palm Beach.  Read below why Forbes thinks it’s one of the Top 18 places you should go in 2018!  Other destinations that made the list include Sydney and Buenos Aires.

Palm Beach County, made up of 39 cities and towns, draws you in with 47 miles of sand. But there are plenty of reasons to head inland. The Norton Museum of Art is undergoing an expansion. The Warehouse District is becoming a culinary haven with the newly opened Grandview Public Market, a food hall operated by Top Chef alum Dale Talde’s Three Kings Restaurant Group.

The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches debuted in 2017 and provides the spring training home for the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros. Watch out for surf veteran Kelly Slater’s 80-acre wave park to open in 2019. The unnamed attraction will include a 2,000-foot-long artificial lake that produces man-made waves and a surf school.

It’s now easier than ever to reach the Palm Beaches, too — intercity express train the Brightline began 30-minute rides to Fort Lauderdale in January. In the coming months, you will be able to travel to downtown Miami in an hour, and eventually to Orlando International Airport in two hours.

What Do You Know About Amethyst, the February Birthstone?

14k 5mm February Birthstone, Amethyst Stud Earrings

Amethyst, the gemstone believed by ancient Greeks and Romans to ward off the intoxicating powers of Bacchus, also was said to keep the wearer clear-headed and quick-witted. Throughout history, the gemstone has been associated with many myths, legends, religions, and numerous cultures. English regalia were even decorated with amethysts during the Middle Ages to symbolize royalty. Amethyst jewelry has been found and dated as early as 2000 BC.

And did you know that the February birthstone was connected with Valentine’s Day? Some historical accounts say that Saint Valentine had an amethyst ring carved with an image of Cupid.

For many years, amethyst was held to be one of the most precious gemstones, often favored by royalty or exclusively by the clergy as a symbol for the diety of Christ. It was even held for many years in the same regard as the diamond. It wasn’t until the discovery of more abundant supplies of amethyst that it became a gemstone enjoyed by more than just the wealthiest buyers.

Many wearers of amethyst throughout history and even today prize the gem for its symbolism as well as its beauty. Leonard da Vinci once said that amethyst helps to quicken intelligence and get rid of evil thoughts. Other qualities like peace, stability, courage and strength are said to be derived from this gemstone.

Today, many wearers simply prize the amethyst for its beautiful shade and the way it complements both warm and cool colors.  Shop Amethyst pieces on our website or in store today!
